Felt Needle Book Workshop

Create a beautiful and functional felt needle book - the perfect sewing kit for you or to gift.  Each sewing kit has two large pages of felt for keeping needles and pins in order  - and a fun way to tuck a pair of travel scissors into the needle book.  Each needle book features embroidery on the spine and cover and a button and loop closure.

The instructor will cover:

  • Sourcing and upcycling 100% pure wool sweaters into usable material for constructing items and use in appliqué
  • Techniques for marking and cutting upcycled felt
  • Appliqué of felt onto felt and quilted backgrounds
  • Embroidery materials and tools
  • Embroidery stitches as well as tips and tricks for working with upcycled wool felt
  • Creating custom cordage for a scissor lanyard
  • Creating gorgeous custom pins

Students will receive one pattern (Guild or Shop's choice) and instructions for completing the Felt Needle Book in class (or at home).

Students should be comfortable threading a needle and doing handwork.  Students are not required to bring their own sewing machine.

The Felt Needle Book Workshop is a half-day course (3 contact hours) or can be scheduled as a full-day course (6 contact hours) in which case participants may choose to make a second needle book or continue to work with scraps of felted wool sweaters and perle cotton to make pin/brooches.  Guilds or shops interested in hosting this workshop can contact Amy Mundinger for fees and scheduling.  A materials list for the class will be provided for students prior to the workshop. A full materials workshop kit can be provided by the instructor if requested for a per student fee and is highly recommended so that students have the opportunity to work with upcycled 100% wool material which will produce the best results and the best experience for the students.
